So in short, find fief, take it, sit and wait for the armies to mass, destroy them. Then I would use my sword of war and stand just to the side of the latter at the top and rack up hundreds of kills before I would be taken down. Well in the first game, I would just pick a fief that had a single steep latter. That should enable you to roll just about everyone in field battles.
If you are doing a claimant quest you should have about 50 top tier troops. Don't worry about losing fiefs, they are really easy to get back. I don't usually do claimant stuff myself, but when i'm running my own faction and fighting a multifront war, i find they declare peace very quickly if you start steamrolling their lords and capturing them. The Calradian Empire sounds much more intimidating.
